OUR STORY
I m Taneeti Singh, founder of Utakalp and a mother of daughters who dream of a more sustainable world. I trained as a fashion designer and went on to work in a professional design firm, where creativity and craftsmanship became my everyday language.
Then life moved on, the way it does. Design took a back seat, and other things took over.
Years later, on an ordinary train ride, I saw a woman wearing a beautiful dress.
I don't remember her face. I don't remember where she got off. But something in me went quiet for a second — a flicker of recognition. I used to make things like that. I used to watch women wear my work and feel that same quiet happiness watching them.
I hadn't felt that in a long time.
Then COVID slowed the world down, and that flicker came back to me. I picked up a pencil again — not for anyone, just to feel it once more. What started as practice became research. What started as research became a decision: I didn't want to follow trends. I wanted to create change.
That's how Utakalp was born — a brand rooted in sustainability, culture, and conscious choices.
Mission
To create fashion that empowers, preserves, and respects — people, craft, and the planet. We support local artisans, create employment for women, and work in small batches rooted in traditional textile craft.
We believe Indian craft traditions are living skills practised by real people — printers, weavers, embroiderers, and artisans across India. When you wear Utakalp, you wear their story.
