Where Do These Numbers Come From?

We calculated Utakalp’s sustainability impact by combining global research with our own production practices:

  • Water: WWF & UNESCO-IHE show cotton garments can use 2,500–3,000L per T-shirt. A fast-fashion dress β‰ˆ 6,000L. Our cotton/block-print process β‰ˆ 4,200L β†’ saving ~1,800L.
  • Carbon: Textile Exchange reports polyester garments β‰ˆ 10–12kg COβ‚‚. Utakalp’s local, natural process β‰ˆ 3–4kg COβ‚‚ β†’ saving ~7kg.
  • Plastic: Ellen MacArthur Foundation shows 35% of ocean microplastics come from polyester. One dress β‰ˆ 0.2kg plastic. Our cotton dresses prevent this waste.
  • Artisans: Each dress requires a full artisan-day of block printing, stitching, and finishing, directly supporting livelihoods.
